Identify, Select and Specify Trees for Development

Nearly all developments will have some interaction with trees or other forms of vegetation. Some sites will have existing trees which may require a Tree Protection Program to be developed and others may start with a clean slate.

Most developers will engage a Landscape Architect to create a landscaping plan for the project. The current environment now prefers that an arborist also be engaged from the planning stage onward, to consult in a number of crucial areas which previously may have been overlooked.

The arborist will consider such things as the type and mature size of trees, proximity to buildings, root volumes, soil suitability, whether structural soil or tree vaults are required, road access/visibility, protection of existing trees, and even allergies and pests.

The arborist may also be involved in many of the landscaping stages such as inspection / audit of tree stock (As 2303-2015 or Natspec) prior to delivery or planting, inspection of planting locations, certification of completed works, formative pruning (if required), fertilising and ongoing maintenance programs.
